Pedal power boosts the appeal: From the Dorset Echo

WEYMOUTH rugby coach Stan Wyatt is taking to the saddle in a bid to Boost Dorset County Hospital’s fight against breast cancer.

The 48-year-old, who coaches the Seasiders’ under-12s, is planning to cycle the whole 874 miles between John O’Groats in Scotland and Land’s End in deepest Cornwall.

And his chosen charity is Boost, which aims to raise £500,000 in order to fund the purchase and installation of digital mammography equipment.

The new equipment will lead to faster diagnosis, which ultimately increases the rate of survival.

Speaking of her husband’s epic journey, which begins on April 21, Giselle Wyatt said: “He’s been preparing since September, it was something that was mentioned on a work’s night out and here we are some six months later.

“There are 12 of them doing it, with the others being colleagues from work, and they anticipate doing it in 10 days.

“Every weekend Stan has been riding 60 to 80 miles a day and he’s on the cross trainer every night in the week – so it’s a lot of work.

“So far we have raised just over £2,000 for Boost, which includes £495 raised from a cake sale and raffle at the rugby club, who we are very thankful to.”

NEWS

Thanks to the fantastic support we received since we launched the appeal in February 2011, the appeal has reached the £450,000 mark. With a number of fundraising events planned for the New Year, we are optimistic that we will reach our final target very soon.

We are delighted to announce that the Trust has just placed an order for the actual scanner equipment. Shortly further orders for the building work required to house the unit will be placed as well.

To celebrate the end of the appeal and to express our thanks to the many many people and groups who have shown such wholehearted support to the appeal, we are currently planning a formal final fundraising event on Wednesday 25th April, Corn Exchange Dorchester.

Further details will follow shortly, so keep checking our website smiley

Thank you for your amazing support!
